With over a decade of investment banking experience dedicated to the Building Industries, Porter has intimate knowledge of the trends in the industry that may affect your business, and relationships with many key decision makers. Most recent to forming Wiley Dickson, he founded and served as Managing Director of the Building Products Practice for Capstone Financial Group, an investment bank focused on middle market companies.

Prior to that, he worked in New York for Bankers Trust and Deutsche Bank Securities in the Building Products Group. There, he provided M&A advisory, senior debt syndication, high yield bond offerings, private placements and other capital markets transactions for a broad range of leading building companies, including: Jacuzzi Brands, Therma-Tru, Cemex, Goodman Mfg., U.S. Concrete, National Gypsum, Service Partners, HNI Corporation and many others.

Before his time on Wall Street, Porter owned and operated The Wiley Group, a Chicago-based consultancy that provided strategic marketing and communications strategy to middle market manufacturing companies with $25 to $150 million in sales. Porter earned his B.A. from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT and an MBA with honors from Columbia Business School.

For the 4 years before forming Wiley Dickson, Ian was a Principal for middle market focused investment bank Capstone Financial Group. In that role he conducted numerous successful transactions across a wide array of industries.

Prior to his career in investment banking, Ian was a client of investment banking firms as both an entrepreneur and corporate leader. Not only did he build a highly profitable, multi-million dollar company from start-up, he also led a number of successful turnarounds and successfully ran operations as CEO, President and/or Chairman for a number of companies in the home improvement industries as well as the advertising, consumer products, and medical products industries.

With his dual experience as an investment banker and business leader, Ian brings a unique insight and ability for manipulating the levers that drive business valuation, as well as direct experience in the execution of joint ventures, cross-border transactions, technology re-engineering, sales & marketing and operations.
